The Victron BMV-712 and BMV-700 battery monitors offer distinct features to cater to different user needs:
Additional Features of BMV-712
Multiple Battery Monitoring
The BMV-712 can monitor multiple batteries. It does this by using the second output of the Shunt (red wire).
- Normal operation, just like BMV-700
- Voltage monitoring of a second battery bank.
- Midpoint battery bank monitoring.
- Monitoring the temperature of a battery.
Auxiliary Connections
The BMV-712 has one more normally closed contact (NC).
Input Voltage Range
- The input voltage for the BMV-712 is 6.5-70VDC,
- Compared to the BMV-700’s range of 6.5-95VDC.
Power Usage
- The BMV-712 has a lower power usage of 1mA at 12V,
- Whereas the BMV-700 uses 4mA at 12V.
Features of the BMV-700
Basic Functionality
It is ideal for simple setups that require basic battery monitoring features. 95% of people should use the BMV-700.
Color Options
Available in two colors:
- Grey
- Black
Conclusion
While the BMV-712 shares the core functionalities of the BMV-700, it offers additional capabilities for more complex setups, including auxiliary connections for enhanced monitoring of temperature, midpoint voltage, and a second battery’s voltage.
Recommendation
For straightforward battery monitoring needs, the BMV-700 is a suitable choice. However, if your setup requires the advanced features offered by the BMV-712, such as additional monitoring capabilities, it is the recommended option.
